the Beauty of Star Gazing

One of my favorite things to do now that we have moved away from the street lights, is star gaze. When I’m super busy and forget God is working in my life, I look up. I look up at the beautiful blanket of stars. It helps me get a better perspective and to prioritize what is important. the most important thing is my relationship with God. The extraordinary thing about star gazing is I have a personal relationship with the One who placed the stars and gave them there light. it blows my mind to think the Person, who placed the stars cares for a sinner like me. I have done bad things in the past, but none of that matters to God in His eyes I am a star shining brightly. I challenge each of you to take the time this week to go star gazing, it is breath-taking and you won’t regret the decision.

Modest is STILL hottest

“What happened to modesty?” it’s a question I ask myself every time I glace at the magazine rack. Modesty is a foreign word in today’s society, but it remains familiar to me.

I grew up being told, “Modest is Hottest.” And I still think that is how we should dress. My father was adamant that his daughters dress modestly and if not there were consequences. Dad threatened us with a wardrobe of turtlenecks and khaki pants, if we did not dress modestly. I would get a wardrobe of neon orange turtlenecks and my sister would get a wardrobe of now green turtlenecks. I HATE turtlenecks, I can’t stand ‘em, and the color orange doesn’t look good on me; so there was only one option, dress modestly. I have always tried to dress modestly, but it is hard when the society is telling you something different. The society says it is okay for you to wear a shorter skirt and a lower top. That is the message young girls are receiving and it is not right.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says,

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

When you accepted Jesus Christ, your body was transformed. It is not yours, but the living Holy Spirit’s dwelling place. The Holy Spirit, part of the trinity, lives inside of you; therefore we need to honor him in the way we dress.  Dressing modestly does not mean we have to wear ankle length skirts with Oxfords for the rest of our lives. We can stay in the trends and still be modest. Modest means having respect for your body and being smart when you pick out clothes.

1 Corinthians 3:16- 17 states, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s and that God’s Spirit lives inside of you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.”

You are the temple of the living God. You are sacred. Sacred. Divine. Hallowed. Religious. Spiritual. Saintly. Holy. Sacred.

Don’t you think we should dress in such a way?
