“What Faith Can Do”

Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
Reverend King was a Baptist Minister back in the 50s in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a civil rights activist.
Back in those day, segregation was an issue and in some places it still is. But faith gave this country the strength to achieve something, which was pretty doubtful. We have church services and are not ostracized for hanging around people of different races. Faith is the strength to do things when you think you can’t.
One of the many definitions of faith in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary of faith is “complete trust.” Complete trust is what we all need to give to God, but it is sometimes easier said than done. Giving complete trust up to God, is something I have trouble with, it is not easy. There is always the wondering/worrying what is around the next corner in life. That is where faith comes in. Faith is described in the book of Hebrews, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1 NRSV)
That verse may be hard to understand and could be translated this way. Now faith is being sure of things that we have hoped for, the belief of things you cannot see. Each of us has faith that our futures will come out like we want them to, and have belief in what we can’t see but want to believe, like in Santa Clause or God. One of the greatest things to do with your faith, is do works that demonstrate your faith. Serve at a soup kitchen or in a homeless shelter. It says in James 2:17, “Faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.”
One of my favorite songs, Submarine by Rich Mullins, says, “It’s about as useless as a screen door on a submarine, faith without works, baby, it just ain’t happening.”
Take a screen door and put on a submarine. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what would happen next. The sub would flood and the thing would sink. Just like if we have faith and do nothing with it. If we don’t do nothing with the faith we have it is dead.
We need to have faith that is alive within us. So that people know we are Christ’s disciples by the way we act.
May we have faith to do things when we think we can’t.
God Bless,
Mary Hannah

The Devil

Once upon a time I wrote songs. I wrote this song one day after I made a mistake and the Devil would not let me forget it (he’s like that). i didn’t realize how good this song was until I read it again.

Tell me what you think..

The Devil

The devil moved in

The first day I sinned

He didn’t come alone

He let all his demons

In with him

They went hand in hand

And destroyed my soul

‘Til I was on my knees prayin’

For you

{Chorus}

Wash away my crimson stain

Make my soul as white as snow

Forbid ‘em from burnin’ a whole

In my soul

And beat the devil out of my soul

{Verse 2}

The devil won’t leave

He just put down one knee

And kept pullin’ and naggin’ at me

‘Til I was on my knees prayin’

For you to come and save me

{Chorus}

Wash away my crimson stain

Make my soul as white as snow

Forbid ‘em from burnin’ a whole

In my soul

And beat the devil out of my soul

{Bridge}

Oh Lord, please

Beat the devil out of my soul

Lord

Beat ‘im

Beat ‘im

Beat ‘im

Beat ‘im

Beat ‘im

Out*

{Chorus}

Wash away my crimson stain

Make my soul as white as snow

Forbid ‘em from burnin’ a whole

In my soul

And beat the devil out of my soul
